Actress Kasthuri has revealed that her decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was triggered by the use of abusive language against her when she raised her voice on social issues.

She said that despite maintaining a neutral stand while speaking against injustice, the ruling DMK treated her as if she were aligned with the BJP. “Their response pushed me to the point of joining the BJP,” Kasthuri explained.

The actress recalled her past experience of being jailed once and stated that she no longer fears such consequences. She also criticized the silence of leaders and celebrities during incidents like caste-based honour killings in Tamil Nadu. “People who speak about equality and social justice did not utter a word. Even Vijay, whom I admire as an actor, remained silent,” she said.

Kasthuri further expressed her trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and declared her commitment to support BJP leader Nainar Nagendran. At the same time, she clarified that she dislikes politics that are played in the name of religion.
